Maple Grove Cemetery
Wayne County, Michigan
28830 Ann Arbor Trail
Westland, MI 48185

Maple Grove Cemetery was established in 1876. It is located on Ann Arbor Trail just East of Middlebelt Road, one half mile west of Dearborn Heights, in Westland, Michigan.
Much of the 26 acres have not been used, even though the cemetery is over 100 years old. (It is currently, 2002 having some of the landscaping and road and entrance remodeled).

The land here was originally purchased in 1846 by General Van Akin, who built a non-denominational church and small cemetery on the northwest quarter of Section 1. The cemetery was than known as the Van Akin Cemetery. By 1907 Van Akin became known as Maple Grove Cemetery. A portion of the land was sold in 1940, and a separated cemetery known as Memorial Park Cemetery was established. They were separated by a small fence, this cemetery had approximately 20 gravestones, however, there are also some unmarked grave sites as well. In 1990 the Memorial Park Cemetery was sold, and the fence between Memorial Park and Old Van Akin was removed, and the entire site became known as Maple Grove Cemetery, comprising of approximately 26 acres total.

Grave sites below have been transcribed by: Linda Ball, as submitted by family , general walk-through of the site, and donated information from the Plymouth Historical Archives, Special Thanks to Garry !.
