Elmwood Cemetery
1200 Elmwood Street
Wayne County, Detroit, Michigan
This cemetery located on the east side of the city, was purchased in 1846 by subscription of 41 acres. By May 1871, Elmwood covered 78 acres on enclosed grounds and 3 and one third acreage outside of the enclosure. A chapel was built in 1855, and the stone gateway on Elmwood was completed in 1870. The total number of interments by late 1884 was 21,421.
55 lots were left unsold at that time.
