Chubb Cemetery
38450 Warren Avenue
Westland, Michigan
Wayne County

The Chubb Cemetery is located on Warren Avenue, just west of Hix Road, in the Westland. (If you make a right turn here, you are about 2 or 3 blocks from the FHC Library). In 1825 Glode D. Chubb and his wife, Pamelia purchased farm land here, from the government and a frame church was built on the property in 1828. They then sold the land to Stephen G. Hayward on November 3, 1852. Hayward recorded that about 3 rods of land were already in use as burial ground, which he continued to maintain . The legal discription of this property is the Northwest Quarter Section of Section 7, Township 2 South of Range 9 East.
Today it is marked with a City of Westland Historical Marker stating:

"Final Resting Place of Nankin Township's most outstanding pioneer. City Historical Site deed to City of Westland in 1968 by Myra Woodhull and Dale & Marion Curtiss, descendents of Glode Chubb"
Chubb, is also widely known for his station here, as part of the Underground Rail Road during the 1830's, until he sold the propery in 1852.
The cemetery itself is in poor condition, overgrown with grass, brush, and weeds. Almost all of the markers are made of wood, and those made of stone, are partially fallen over.
If you come here, bring mostique repelent !

There are a total of 34 readable stones here, and all are transcribed below.
