The present Mason City Band was organized in 1878, and in 1879 was incorporated under the State law. The instruments, of the style known as "helicon," are those in use at the organization, and number of fifteen. The band is very neatly uniformed, in military style. For a considerable number of years a band had existed in Mason, but none so complete in its workings as the present one. The officers of the association are: James Van Camp, President; Charles Sanderson, Vice President; Albert Rose, Secretary; A. Mehan, Treasurer; E. F. Meech, Leader.
