Blair Township was organized in April 1867.

The first settlement in this township was made in 1859 at Monroe Center, a postoffice on the line between Blair and Green Lake, thirteen miles south of Traverse City and four miles south of Grawn, now the nearest railroad point.

Grawn is a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad, in Blair township, about eight miles southeast of Traverse City. It has a population of about two hundred, and contains a hotel, stores, blacksmith shop, harness and shoe shop. A daily stage runs between here and Wexford. Keystone and Sleights are two way stations in this township on the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad.

There are two Methodist Episcopal churches in this township, one at Monroe Center and the other at Grawn. There are four school buildings in the townshp and the town also owns a hall that cost eight hundred dollars. There is also an Odd Fellows hall and dining room at Monroe Center that cost about twenty-five hundred dollars.
